About Us

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), as of 2011, only one quarter of students in each grade level measured demonstrated true proficiency in writing. With the NAEP recording no notable changes in post-2011 assessments and considering that writing is such an essential skill, it is apparent that advancing writing education in the United States is of utmost importance.

The CVHS Writing Center aims to help students at all levels improve their writing skills by providing free writing assistance to any student enrolled in Carnegie Vanguard High School (with limited access for students in other HISD schools). We offer personalized feedback from experienced writers and online editorial services for most types of writing. For in-person assistance, please visit room 106; our times of availability are listed on the home page.

Policies

These policies describe how this writing service operates and how you (the user) are allowed to utilize this service. These policies were last updated October 29, 2024 and are subject to change in the future.

The writing service offered by us is limited to HISD students only. A valid student ID (that can be connected with the document submitted) must be provided upon submitting a request to utilize this service. Feedback will be provided via comments on the Google Doc submitted through the form. You will not be directly notified by us when we complete your request, although you might receive email notifications from the comments that we make.

By using this service, you agree to the following:

I. The document submitted through the form is primarily your own work; i.e. you did not plagiarize any part of the document.

II. The text within the document is not AI-generated. While we will not verify whether this is true, the authenticity and impact of the feedback is largely lost if your writing is not "genuine."
